Candace is the Director of the Atlanta Police Department Crime Lab. With more than a decade of forensic experience, she is the first Black woman to hold the title for the agency and, presumably, the nation. Walker, a forensic scientist, specializes as a Firearm and Toolmark Examiner. She holds a B.S. in Biology minoring in Forensic Chemistry and an M.S. in Criminal Justice Administration from Loyola University New Orleans. Her career began at the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. She then took an assignment in Afghanistan, analyzing military cases with the Defense Forensic Science Center. Because of her experience, in 2014 she returned to Afghanistan for a year as a Forensic Mentor. She has served on the Jackie Robinson Foundation Alumni Association Executive Board; is the Atlanta Chapter President of the Loyola University New Orleans Alumni Association; founded the Ann Key Memorial Foundation at Stone Mountain High School in memory of her late mother; is an International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) 40 under 40 Award recipient for 2018; and is a member of LEAD Atlanta Alumni Association, the Stone Mountain-Lithonia Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. (SMLAC, DST), the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives (NOBLE), and the Atlanta Fire and Rescue Foundation Young Executive Board (AFRF YE).
